How many Wednesdays until Christmas?
The number above shows how many Wednesdays until Christmas 2026. Counting from today, Wednesday 28 October, there are nine: today, then 4, 11, 18 and 25 November, and 2, 9, 16 and 23 December.
Wednesday is the middle of the week, the "hump day". Once you are past Wednesday, the weekend is in sight, and once you are past the last Wednesday, Christmas is only two days away.
Wednesday 23 December: the night before Christmas Eve
The last Wednesday of the countdown is 23 December 2026. In many families it is the real start of the holiday: school is out, the office has emptied, and relatives begin to arrive. It is a good evening to prepare food for the next two days, finish the wrapping and make sure the stockings are ready. The Christmas planning checklist has a list for that final stretch.
A Wednesday movie night for every week
Midweek is a great time for a short family film. Here is one for each Wednesday left, chosen from our classic Christmas movies:
- 28 October: The Nightmare Before Christmas, the perfect Halloween-to-Christmas bridge.
- 4 November: Klaus.
- 11 November: Miracle on 34th Street.
- 18 November: The Muppet Christmas Carol.
- 25 November: The Polar Express.
- 2 December: Arthur Christmas.
- 9 December: Elf.
- 16 December: Home Alone.
- 23 December: It's a Wonderful Life.

Midweek jobs for each Wednesday
If films are not your thing, use the Wednesdays for small midweek tasks instead: 4 November for the gift list, 11 November for travel plans, 18 November for ordering personalised gifts, 25 November for Thanksgiving prep, 2 December for writing cards, 9 December for posting, and 16 December for the food order. The planning checklist has more ideas.
In the US, Wednesday 25 November is one of the busiest travel days of the year, as families head home for Thanksgiving the next day.
Wednesday school events
Many schools hold nativity plays, carol concerts and Christmas fairs midweek in December. Check the school newsletter early, and add each event to your calendar alongside the dates on our Christmas calendar, so nothing clashes with work or travel.
