How many days until Easter?

Why Easter moves every year
Unlike Christmas, Easter has no fixed date. Western churches celebrate it on the first Sunday after the first full moon on or after 21 March, using a church calculation of the moon rather than the real one. That rule goes back to the Council of Nicaea in 325. It means Easter can fall anywhere from 22 March to 25 April. Orthodox churches use the older Julian calendar, so their Easter is often later.

Easter traditions
Easter is the most important festival in the Christian year, celebrating the resurrection of Jesus. Around it have grown many customs: decorated eggs, which symbolise new life; Easter egg hunts; hot cross buns on Good Friday; and the Easter bunny, a tradition brought to America by German settlers. The White House has held an Easter Egg Roll on its lawn since 1878. In Greece and other Orthodox countries, red-dyed eggs are cracked against each other in a game called tsougrisma.
Easter around the world
In Australia, the Easter Bilby sometimes replaces the bunny, raising awareness of an endangered marsupial. In Sweden and Finland, children dress up as Easter witches and go door to door for sweets. In Florence, a cart of fireworks is set off outside the cathedral in the Scoppio del Carro. In Poland, families take decorated baskets of food to church to be blessed on Holy Saturday.
