When a holiday passes, its countdown rolls over to the next year by itself. So the Halloween card switches to 2027 on 1 November, and the Christmas card switches on 26 December.

Why count down to holidays?
Counting down gives a holiday a shape. Researchers who study happiness often find that much of the pleasure of a holiday comes before it, in the anticipation. A countdown stretches that pleasure out, and gives children a simple way to understand time. It also helps with the practical side: knowing exactly how many days are left makes shopping, travel and cooking easier to plan.
