Three ways to count the days till Christmas
- Full days left. The number of complete 24-hour periods between now and midnight on Christmas morning. This is the big number on this page, and the most precise answer to "how many more days until Christmas".
- Calendar days including today. Today counts as one, even if it is already evening. This is one more than full days, and it is what many people mean by "days left".

If you are asking "how many days till Christmas" to plan something, use full days. If you are filling a paper chain with a child, use sleeps.

Why Christmas is on 25 December
Christmas Day is a fixed date, so the number of days until Christmas only depends on today's date, never on the year's moon or calendar quirks like Easter. Western churches have celebrated the birth of Jesus on 25 December since at least the 4th century. Many Orthodox churches use the older Julian calendar, which places the same feast on 7 January in the modern calendar.
